"What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that's gone forever, impossible to reproduce."
Karl Lagerfeld (1933- )
Karl Lagerfeld is a German fashion designer, artist, and photographer in Paris, France.
This is what I feel is so important about photography, capturing those fleeting moments. I have noticed that the memories I remember most vividly are the ones with an intense emotion attached or that have been recorded in some way.
I remember one summer vacation when I was small. We were on the gulf coast playing at the condo pool we use to rent a few times a year. I remember my brother and I jumping into the pool. I can still hear the laughter and splashing of the water. My dad was lounging in the pool with a floaty at his head and one at his feet. Mom was taking pictures.
I can relive this memory because of the photographs she took and the sounds we recorded on our old cassette tape recorder. If we had not preserved those memories on film and tape, it is quite possible they would have been lost forever.
